"Rednecks, Hillbillies, are descendants of settlers from Wales, Scotland, and Ulster." Well, that explains why most of them have Welsh, Scottish and Irish surnames....
And "Cracker" is derived from a Gaelic word for a boaster, huh? All this time I thought it had something to do with the cracker barrels in rural general stores...
Redneck was used by coal miners too when tying a red kerchief around their neck when they were fed up working for scrip. I had no idea it went back further. Nice article, at least this hillbilly thinks so. 🙂👏
this made me smile. I know a rancher on FB who grew up in the borderlands and had a friend from there by the name of Wilkinson. that also made me smile. Dave Wilkinson =)

Now you know why they are called cracker barrels.
To this day, “Whats the craic?” and “Where's the Craic?” Are used in Ireland, Ulster and Scotland.
What's new, and Where's the party.
Or, as they say on the island of Newfoundland in Canada (whose peoples' ancestors come from similar lineage as they hillbillies): "What are ya at?"
Yes exactly.
