Public Virtue, Private Vice.

It’s a public morality, a public religious ceremony. Sacrifices - borne by others- are offered to propitiate the gods of peace, or nature.

The suffering are the slaughtered animals, the Virtuous raise their entrails to the sky.

…then by their very lives and example incarnate the vices they denounce. Some of that rubbing their superiority in the face of the peasants.

I will usually walk away from people like that. I was eating at a restaurant when the guy at the next table decided to interject his opinion into a conversation my wife and I were having. When I started to say something, he broke into our conversation once again. After my wife retired from the local sheriff's office with 25 years working in the jail her opinion was going to be heard, and it was. He got up and walked out. Don't mess with a southern girl while she is eating.
