I have been reading the letters of Pelagius.
I will state, based upon what Pelagius actually wrote and taught,
The church of Rome, and Augustine lied about him.
So far I have found none of the heresies That Augustine accused.
I do find challenges to corruption.
Challenges to Papal power.
A profession of a Holy, Just, Merciful, Loving GOD.
An insistence that Humans are free to choose to obey GOD.
That Salvation was by Grace.
That We must Choose to Accept GOD'S Grace. That we must Choose GOD, that we are Commanded to Choose Love. Choose GOD, Choose Mercy.
Pelagius states the certainty of a just and Holy GOD
Asserting free will.
The ability to choose between good and evil.
A point indicated is in the story of Adam and Eve.
Prior to eating of the tree of knowledge of Good and Evil,
Both Adam and Eve had no experience or knowledge of evil.
After eating, and faced with the knowledge and understanding, of first, Good and Evil. They understood that they had done wrong, committed the evils of envy and pride. For which reason they tried to hide from GOD in shame.
They had the free will to choose,
They chose, envy, pride, which led to rebellion, disobedience to GOD'S command.
Caught out, they clung to the sin of pride, which is what shame is all about.
Each step, was the result of choices made. Choices made freely.
Pelagius taught that Humans were capable of free choice between Good and Evil and that a Holy GOD would never issue a command that humans could not obey if they do but choose to obey.
Pelagius further taught that Grace, was freely given by GOD because a holy, righteous GOD is both Loving/Merciful, Forgiving and Just.
Thus people would never be judged by GOD, for Anything other than their own individual sins.
In short,
The “Original Sin” of Adam and Eve was the Same sin of Satan.
Pride.
“Pride goeth before a fall.”
Takes on whole new meanings.
Sounds Right 🙏
