Of course.

No one living knows what Caladwylch looked like.

It would have been either a Celtic design, or a Spatha.

The medieval arming sword, was a design that only developed about Five hundred years after the Fifth century AD.

Opinions vary.

No one actually knows.

I based my data upon Archeology, and history.

Also, My background in Anthropology.

Late Iron age weapons , armor and tactics are things I have studied deeply.

The Arthurian Historic era is also an area of deep research.

Along with Celtic mythology and cosmology.

Every single “mystic” detail, I derived from the actual known cosmology of the Celts, and Romano-Celtic era archeology.

I did, intentionally discard ALL literary inventions surrounding Arthur, Merlin and Caladwylch, that came after Chretien.

Nor did I include any of the modern inventions of Wicca etc.

I can produce a list of references if you wish.

Geoffrey Ashe, Dr. Raimund Karl, extensive publications/excavations, He is currently a professor of Archaeology and Heritage Management Institute and at the School of History, Welsh History and Archaeology at Bangor University.

Dr. Barry Cunliffe,

Jordanes, Nennius, Venerable Bede, Monmouth, Mallory, Chretien.

I think that I wrote a work of fiction.

I worked hard to get the history as accurate as possible.

BTW,

The cross hilted medieval arming sword you referenced in your article, is a design that did not exist in the Fifth century AD, in fact, it did not exist for almost Five hundred years after the time of the historic Arthur.

Actual late Iron age, early migration era swords did not have a cross guard.

The Spatha, a design the Romans adopted from the Celts, did not have a cross guard, was in fact, one handed, used either with a shield or slashing from horseback.

The Celtic sword did not have a cross guard, was one handed, a blade length akin to the Spatha.

The Angles, Saxons, Gothic tribes and Norse swords were evolved from the Spatha.

This is known fact, and evidenced from actual surviving examples.

Our opinions differ.

I will stick to verifiable facts.

You are welcome to your ideas.

Forty years of study, and personal experience are my basis.

Your basis is your basis.

I believe that the primary source for the Arthur legend is RioThamus, in Latin, RigoThamos, in Brythonic ( early Cymraeg) King On The Thames, King of The Britons.

Thus in my FICTIONAL account, that is what I based it on.

As a Pagan,

I am surprised my accuracy with the Gwynyffyr, The Lady Of the Lake, and the personal name, Aeron, is upsetting.

But then,

25 years as a Celtic Reconstructionist Pagan , taught me that Wiccans, have their own mythology that has no basis in actual pre Christian practices and beliefs.

Which Is what I gather your complaint is.

I did not use the recently invented interpretations in my story.

Your objections are based upon your particular theology.

Which is fascinating.

Attacking me for Heresy because I rejected your theology.

You, are not the sole arbiter of truth.

Truth, can always be weighed, measured, and confirmed.

Fantasy, cannot be.

and btw there is historians that state King Arthur lived in the 5th century ad. So according to you the cross hilt wasnt available during the time frame that you state in your reply. but that is what they used in the movie Excalibur. So then the sword in the movie Excalibur according to your staement about cross hilts that sword in the movie would be in error. also I work very hard on my articles to bring facts and truths to light that can be incorporated into cross culture into your every day. Also in King Arthur with Vivane who is Lady of the Lake and Morgan Le Fae all dealt in witchcraft as well as Merlin who was a sorcerer . So there was magic afoot in the Arthurian legends…
