I love this! I saw the Jolly Green Giant pic, and I immediately thought about my dad. He was a Seabee, and did 4 tours in Vietnam between 64' and 72'. During his last tour I was 2, and every time I saw a can of Jolly Green Giant veggies, I'd get super excited, and yell out "DADDY!!!!!!" To a little girl, my 6'ft tall daddy, dressed in green fatigues was the Jolly Green Giant. Thank you for sharing your story. Your dad sounds like a real, honest to goodness, bad-ass.

Awesome.

Yes, Dad was.

Like Fess parker, Sheriff Andy Taylor, John Wayne and Johnny Cash rolled into one.

My dad became a Seabee because of John Wayne, and he a Georgia Southern Gentleman. He was a firefighter, an EMT, and a search/recovery diver after the military. It sounds our dads were cut from the same cloth. They just don't make 'em like that anymore.

No they Don't.

Dads Hometown was Douglas, in Coffee County Georgia.

There's a Donnie Harper Road there.

Dad was a Medic, Commo, Marksman. Then Police Officer, Ga State Constable, ( elected, he did not run was wrote in) DJ, yeah, larger than life and twice as bright.

Sounds like our Dads would have got along well!

My dad was from Richmond County, GA. Just outside of Augusta. I think they would've got along too. :)
