Prepping for the Zombie Apocalypse.
Today's question regards trade, trade goods and value.
With civilization collapsed,
Paper money will only have value as,
Toilet paper.
Which is a thing of value. Comfort and use.
Gold,
Is a shiny metal too soft for useful tools. Without infrastructure, such as electric grids, and the presence of Electricity, Gold has no industrial use, as in for example, electronics.
The only actual use for gold is ornamental. Purely an aesthetic , a luxury.
When hungry,
Exactly what use is a piece of soft shiny metal?
Would you prefer to exchange, hand woven cloth, wool, a table, a chair, a tool for a lump of shiny metal or,
A loaf of bread? A side of bacon? A smoked ham?
Think about it.
With NO infrastructure, no cities, factories, no illusions of monetary value.
What is the real value of gold?
Guys,
What will feed your children?
Keep you sheltered and warm in winter?
What will get you laid, companionship? food, shelter, wine, poetry, compassion, kindness, or a lump of soft shiny metal?
For actual value in the zombie apocalypse.
Skills, tools, food, shelter, warm clothes, shoes,
Money, gold,
Aside from wiping your butt, or looking pretty,
What use is it?
As i have learned while preparing for the zombie apocalypse "you cannot eat gold and silver."
Skills, tools and barter goods will be of the most value in any short term "grid down scenario" or the beginning of a long one.
That said, in a very extended GDS, the "prepared" who have stored gold and silver, will have a means of barter and trade available. Ostensibly, the hope is that a rudimentary system of trade and currency could be established.
