There are some that are highly offended by coarse language.
Which, is entirely understandable.
I would like to point out that contrary to popular opinion the use of coarse language is not the same as cursing.
To use common epithets for feces, urine, biological functions, may well be considered coarse.
Of course,
That entirely depends upon Culture, era, class, custom, all of which determine exactly when these words for regular functions encountered and experienced in life are deemed appropriate.
Cursing,
Is another matter entirely.
What is a curse?
In simplest terms, to curse some one is to wish ill upon that person.
I hope you break your neck,
Would be an example of pronouncing a curse.
Your breath smells like shit, is not a curse. Offensive probably, especially if true, but, not a curse.
Calling for GOD, to bring vengeance, or harm is absolutely a curse.
Invoking spiritual, or demonic forces to cause harm, is cursing.
Cursing and the use of coarse language are entirely different things.
This brings me to a common misapplication of one of the ten commandments.
“ Thou Shalt Not Take The NAME Of The Lord Thy GOD In Vain.”
What exactly does that sentence state?
Thou; You,
SHalt Not; Shall Not, Should Not
Take THE Name; Who's Name?
Of The Lord Thy GOD;
The Lord, the most high, Your GOD.
In Vain; in Vain,
What does Vain mean?
To understand the fullness of the commandment we need to consider the meaning of the word "vain." Webster's defines vain as 1) having no real value or significance; worthless, empty, idle, hollow, etc.; 2) without force or effect; futile, fruitless, unprofitable, unavailing, etc.
Thus.
You shall not speak the name of GOD, for frivolous purposes,
You hold HIS name reverently.
You treat GOD’s Name as sacred, holy.
This pertains to cursing absolutely!
GOD’s name should never be used as an insult, to belittle, to diminish, to curse, or in ANY irreverent manner.
By definition,
the NAME of GOD can never be anything other than Holy.
So,
What does coarse language, casual references to biological functions,
Have to do with the Ten Commandments or cursing?
Nothing. Unless one frivolously, stupidly, uses the name of GOD in conjunction with coarse subjects.
Coarse language in itself is entirely subjective.
For example
Faggot.
The literal meaning is, a bundle of sticks, usually firewood kindling.
In the British Isles it is slang for a Cigarette.
In North America it has developed entirely different meanings.
When, where and how the word is used determines whether or not the word is coarse, derogatory, or innocuous.
Context matters.
So,
Say what the fuck you want the way you fucking want. Have the balls to mean what you say and be clear when you choose to be an asshole to someone, don't be pathetic and shitty about it! Remember, everything has consequences. Rudeness is , rude remember.
If you actually intend to curse someone, keep in mind that everything has a price.
Should you be stupid enough to annoy GOD, by taking GOD’s name in vain, please do so in an open field far away from innocent people. And,
Bless Your Heart.
Amen brother Donn.
Course language: Arse, cow pucky, shiesse, Chingole, Puta, etc.
I agree with you on cursing. Which is why I never curse, but I do cuss, in latin, french, german, spanish, etc. It seems like the coarse language is the first thing you learn.
